In addition to its legendary competition pedigree and wildly successful V-12 and V-8 model lines, a considerable amount of Ferrari ’s prestige is attributable to the limited-production flagship supercars that the company has built over the past 60 years. Featuring an extremely desirable array of equipment options, this minimally driven 575M Superamerica beautifully epitomizes Maranello ’s longstanding tradition of manufacturing premium supercars.
In1953, Ferrari introduced the 340 America, a special competition-tuned customer car that featured a new long~blockV-12 engineered by Aurelio Lampredi. The Lampredi engine became the mainstay of Maranello ’s sports-racing cars
For the following three years before its ultimate development was introduced in the 410 Superamerica road car of1956. Just 79 examples of the high-end Superamerica were built over two different engine specifications and several sub —series, and they were retailed to luminaries around the world.
Chassis no. 145719 has the proud distinction of fulfilling Maranello ‘s supercar vision in 2005, as one of559 examples of the 575M Superamerica, a special version of the beloved IZ-cylinder 575M. In celebration of Ferrari ’s 50 th anniversary in the US, an open —top variant of the 575 was conceived, but this was to be no ordinary ragtop or automated hardtop. Designer Leonardo Fioravanti patented a new glass roof that rotated 180 ” on arear hinge to lie flat against the rear deck when opened. Utilizing revolutionary electrochromic technology, the Revochromico roof featured an electronically adjustable tint with five different settings. Both the rear hinged roof and its auto tint technology were industry firsts.
According to its original window sticker, this elegant Superamerica was factory-equipped with the GTC Handling Package, Daytona seats, Scuderia shields, rear-wall leather, and a high-power sound system with six —CD changer. Believed to be one of two examples finished in NART Blue specified for the US, this Superamerica was purchased new through a well-known dealer in Florida, and minimally used and regularly serviced by its caretaker, a collector who owns some very rare vintage Ferraris. Carefully maintained since its delivery, the Ferrari displayed just over 1,545 miles at the time of cataloging and the car presents in excellent original condition.
Capable of 4.2 —second bursts to 60 mph and a top speed of 199mph, this rare high —performance supercar offers stunning condition and is accompanied by the original window sticker, books, and tools. It would brilliantly complement any collection of Ferrari classics or supercars, as a fabulous throwback to the elite Superamericas of the 1950s and 1960s.
